Creative ways to decorate your kitchen

Here are some fun and creative ways to liven up your kitchen! Throughout this article, you will find many easy things that you can do in order to personalize and brighten your kitchen space. There are three main areas that will be covered here: floors, storage, and walls. Remember, these ideas are just a basis for your creativity. Feel free to use these ideas as a platform for your imagination!

Floors

The best idea in ages (I mean AGES) is linoleum floor tiling. There are simply dozens and dozens of colors to choose from. What are some of your favorites? What are some of the colors that you are already using in your kitchen decor? Mix those colors with a few neutrals like gray and white, and you are on your way to a very interesting and eye-catching kitchen floor! For example: If you like blue, green, light blue and yellow, buy several of each color. Throw in several white and gray tiles as well. Following the proper guidelines, randomly (no pattern) disperse the tiles on your kitchen floor. Voila! You instantly have a "new" kitchen!

Storage

There is no better place to find "cool" storage items for your kitchen than an antique/junk store. First of all, some of the best-looking designs are the older ones. Especially the mid-century modern style containers. Go on the hunt! Bring a friend! You won't believe all the interesting things you can find. Use a beat up old bucket to store rolled up dish towels in colors that coordinate with your new floor (above)! Shine up a dusty, old, forgotten pot rack to hang from the ceiling. Enameled pie-safes are a great place to store china-ware, candle holders, place mats, wine glasses and so on. Antique bottle crates are great for storing odds and ends. Be creative!

Walls

Is there a blank wall in your kitchen that needs a little attention? Wall paper it with your favorite recipes! Cut interesting recipes out of magazines and paste them to the wall. Seal them by applying a coat of clear poly-acrylic paint with a 3 inch paint brush. Hang an old flour sack (look at feed stores) to add a touch of rustic country-style. Stencil a design in your preferred colors along the wall near the ceiling. Draw a "frame" on the surface of the wall and actually let your children color a picture within the borders! This last idea is EXTREMEMLY cute!

You see, there are many ways to creatively personalize your kitchen. Use the ideas here as a spring board for your own decorative talents. Good luck!
