Interior design: creating an army themed bedroom

If you have a family member in the army, or a child who hopes to be in the army someday, an army themed bedroom would be a perfect design choice. When creating an army themed bedroom, the first thing that might come to mind is to dominate the room with camouflage fabric. Though it is an important element, you can add a great many more design elements. Use these tips to create your army themed bedroom.

If you have ever been in the army, or know someone who has, you know that the main decor element is cleanliness. Therefore, your room design should neat, clean, and orderly. Make sure your room is planned to eliminate any chance of clutter. Use simple furnishings that store all of your belongings. A wall unit with plenty of drawers and shelves behind doors will help you find a place for every item, so that every item can be kept in its place. A footlocker with army stickers is a nice element to add and will hold extra items.

A great color palate to use for an Army bedroom is the colors found in a camouflage print. You can use the dark green jungle camouflage, or the new, lighter camouflage print designed for the dessert. Using these colors as your base, you should paint the walls of your room in the lightest khaki color. You probably should not paint the entire room to mimic camouflage print as is will eventually become too overwhelming. Instead, you can add stripes of an army green color, and use the brown color as an accent color elsewhere in the room. Paint a large but simple mural on the wall of stripes you would find on a soldiers shoulder signifying rank. For window treatments, choose sheer army green treatments. Your bedding should be army green as well. A window topper would be a great place to add camouflage fabric in small amounts.

Using the camouflage fabric you chose as your color scheme, add camouflage details in accent pillows and occasional furniture like chairs. You should be able to find a camouflage print director's chair or Papasan style chair.

For your room decor, display model army tanks, and other vehicles, was well as army memorabilia on shelves and dressers in the room.

Choose flooring that is simple and easy to clean. For example, use wood floors with army green throw rugs, or a neutral colored carpet.

For your wall hangings, purchase vintage army recruitment posters, and hang them in matching frames. Display the United States flag either folded ceremoniously or displayed fully on the wall. Hang pictures of family members and friends who are or have been officers in their uniforms. You can make your own wall art by making collages centered on the words, loyalty, duty, honor, respect, service, and courage. A copy of the pledge of allegiance and the star spangled banner would also make nice wall art. Also, display history plaques that relate to the army on the wall in chronological order that you can passively learn about army history.
