Bathroom renovation installing a hand held shower head
A handheld showerhead can make tasks such as cleaning the tub or cleaning the tiles easier, giving the family dog a bath quicker and easier, rinsing shampoo out of hair quicker and easier or even taking a shower without getting a wet head possible. Installation of this handheld showerhead is also easy and quick, usually done in an afternoon, especially if the do-it-yourselfer follows a few simple steps.
The first step to installing a handheld showerhead is to gather all the proper tools or materials needed for the project. These tools or materials would include an adjustable wrench, Teflon tape, a pipe mounted hand-held showerhead and a rag.
After gathering all the materials and tools needed, the next step is to remove the old showerhead. There is a nut located above the showerhead, this nut has two flat sides that make it easier to unscrew. If reusing the old nut with the new showerhead, protect the nut from scratches by placing the rag on it. Using wrench adjusted to fit the nut with the rag on it, loosen the nut, and then remove it by turning it 'counter-clockwise'. Now remove the old showerhead as well as the old plumbing tape that had been used during past installation. Using the rag, wipe off any excess water still on the pipe.
As soon as the removal of the old showerhead has taken place and cleaning of the pipe is finished, the preparations for the new showerhead can begin. The first thing to do to prepare the new showerhead is tightly wrap the end of the pipe a few times, with the Teflon tape. Even though it does not take much Teflon tape, this step is important because it helps prevent water leaks. Make sure the tape adheres tightly to the pipe.
The pipe is now ready for attaching the new showerhead. The showerhead will come with instructions for connecting the hose and wand; follow these instructions closely. After connecting the hose and wand, place the new showerhead on the pipe and hand-tighten "clockwise". One important aspect to remember when installing a hand-held showerhead is never over-tighten the connections. It is best if tools are not used, finger tight is usually good enough. Now tighten the nut located above the showerhead using the adjustable wrench.
A spot will need to be thoroughly cleaned and allowed to completely dry before installing the trigger hanger. The trigger hanger should be positioned exactly where its desired location is, then it is to be stuck to the wall by pressing on it firmly.
The showerhead is now installed and ready to try out. Turn on the water and watch the showerhead for any leaks. If a leak is found, double check all the connections as the leak will probably be due to a connection not being tight enough. After checking all the connections and retightening them, retest the showerhead for leaks. If there are no leaks found, the newly installed showerhead is finally ready to be enjoyed.
