Do it yourself kids theme bedrooms: egyptian furniture, crafts and decorating

If you are looking for a unique bedroom theme for your child's room, you should consider designing an Egyptian theme. The following ideas will help you create this room quickly and easily.

Walls: The walls should resemble limestone blocks used to make the pyramids. You can get this effect by taping off large block sections the wall and doing a wash effect with white, cream, and taupe. Paint colors should be watered down, or mixed with glaze. A quicker way to get a similar effect would be add the wash effect to the entire wall without the blocks, and then applying linoleum squares directly to the wall. These squares should vary in height around the room, from full wall height to a few feet off the floor. In one or two places, you can arrange the blocks to create a step pattern on the wall. For the finishing touch, add hieroglyphs stencils. With the help of a hieroglyph translator found on the internet, you can create loving messages for your child to translate. Create a translation key on authentic papyrus paper, and hang it on the wall.

Window Treatments: Your window treatments should be light and airy sheers preferably made of gauge. You can add gold accents to these curtains in the form of tieback ropes, trim and tassels.

Floors: Just like the walls, your floors should resemble limestone. You can use faux limestone linoleum floors, or your can paint and stencil old wood floors. If you prefer carpet, purchase something very soft and light colored like short a shag carpet in varied beige tones.

Furniture: Ancient Egyptian furniture was simple and well made. It was also lower to the floor than standard American furniture. To mimic the same look and feel, you should use a platform bed, and perhaps a chaise lounge for additional seating. For a girl's bedroom, get a bed four-post bed with canopy rails from which to hang more gauze fabric and gold trim. For a boys bed, make a pyramid shaped headboard from plywood. Hand-paint it to match the walls, and add Egyptian symbols. The dressers and other non-upholstered furniture should be a light natural color.

Bedding: Make bedding out of authentic looking Egyptian textiles. You will find these fabrics in cream, rust, and metallic gold colors with Pharos and other Egyptian motifs.

Accessories: Accessories in the room like the wastebasket, laundry basket, and extra storage should be made out of wicker. Purchase jewelry and treasure boxes made in the shape of pyramids. Since the Egyptians loved cats, you can add cat statues of all sizes around the room. Place indoor palm trees in front of the windows and around the room and hang large woven fans on the walls. Replace regular ceiling fan blades with woven fan blades make from wicker. Finally hang pictures or Egyptian Pharaohs around the room in correct historic order. Display pertinent information about each Pharaoh in the same way a museum would place history or artist information under the picture. This will allow your child will learn history while enjoying their bedroom.
