Decorate a boring rental apartment without painting

The walls of most rental homes are painted off white or near white and the property owner does not allow it to be changed. For people who like neutral decor, this can be great, but for those who need a bit more color in their lives, living with white walls and be a challenge. Here are some ideas you can use to brighten up the place without using paint.

Master Bedroom: Hide the glaring white walls while adding romance to your bedroom using fabric. You can use a bed with canopy rails and hang beautiful curtain panels around the bed, or you can install curtain rods all the way around the room covering every square inch of the walls with fabric. If that is too over the top for you, add vibrant colors on your beds and windows to take the emphasis away from the walls.

Kids Rooms: Have a removable mural painted for your child's room. It can be painted on plywood panels or un-stretched fabric. You can also hang a series of paintings on the wall that will make one big picture when put together. You can also use multiple painting that coordinate around the same theme. You transform beach towels into mini tapestries by hanging then on the walls of your kid's rooms. You can easily find colorful character towels like Mickey Mouse and the Power Rangers in your favorite department store. You can also purchase towels with simple themes like the beach or flowers.

Living Room: Make your windows the focal point of the room so the walls will go virtually unnoticed. Arrange the furniture so the main focal point of the room is the windows. Further, bring the outside in by filling the room with live plants and flowers. On the walls, hang landscape paintings. If there is no view from your living room windows, create your own view by hanging plants both inside and outside of your windows.

Dining room: Dining rooms are usually the richest boldest rooms in the house. You can still a sense or warmth and ambiance without paint by using rich slipcovers on your chairs and matching tablecloths. To bring more emphasis to the table, layer the table with runners, candles, and even setting the table with bold dishes. To add color to the walls, hang tapestries, interesting china, and stone wear. Add more color to the room by hanging colorful treatments on the window, and an area rug on the floor. If there is wall to wall carpet in the apartment, add an area rug on top anyway.

Kitchen: The kitchen can be the hardest room to add color to without the use of paint. This is also the last room where people think of adding art. To spruce up your kitchen, you will want to add a removable wallpaper border in a theme to match your kitchen canisters and other counter decor. In addition, display bowls of fruit and flowers on your tables and counters. For an interesting wall hanging, collect menus from your favorite restaurants and create a collage. Hang your menu collage in a coordinating frame.
