All about kincaid furniture

If you've looked for fine wood furniture lately, you've undoubtedly come across the name Kincaid. Although Kincaid is not among the oldest U.S. furniture companies, it has earned a reputation for solid quality.

The company started small. With just five employees, George and Wade Kincaid began making cedar chests and wardrobes in a small building in North Carolina. They weren't the only ones starting a furniture manufacturing company in the area. Today, over 60% of all furniture manufactured in the U.S. is made within a 200-mile radius of central North Carolina. Much of North Carolina's tourism consists of furniture shoppers, visitors traveling from showroom to showroom to shop, compare, and drive good bargains.

Kincaid has a reputation today for traditional styling, moderate prices, and good quality. Although Kincaid changes its styles a bit from year to year, its collections could never be called trendy, which is good when buying furniture-you don't want to have to buy new furniture every few years.

Today, Kincaid uses primarily solid wood in its furniture. Not all exposed wood, however, is solid wood. Wood products such as plywood, veneers, and laminates are used for some structural elements and for some decorative elements as well. Some of the furniture also features metal, stone, marble, granite, or composite materials which look like these elements.

Kincaid divides its furniture styles into five categories: Traditional, European Country, Country, Casual/Contemporary, and West Indies. In the Traditional collections, you'll find classic styles such as sleigh beds and four posters. The finishes are rich, and the drawers have brass pulls. The European Country designs are more ornate and include the Laura Ashley collection. The designs in the Country collections include turned-post beds and nice oak finishes. In the Casual/Contemporary collections, you'll find simpler, American-inspired furniture. These designs are reminiscent of Shaker and arts-and-crafts pieces.. There's only one collection in the West Indies category: Bermuda Bay, which has a rich, exotic feel.

Clearly, Kincaid is trying to reach all tastes. In addition to the wood furniture, Kincaid has an upholstery division, which manufactures upholstered sofas and chairs and even makes interchangeable slipcovers.

If you go to North Carolina and you'd like to find a good deal on Kincaid furniture, there is a new outlet mall on US 321 near Granite Falls. Everything on the floor is on sale.

Kincaid is incorporated into the La-Z-Boy family of furniture companies. Other companies owned by La-Z-Boy include Alexvale, American Drew, Bauhaus, Centurion, Clayton Marcus, England, Hammary, HickoryMark, Lea, Pennsylvania House, Pilliod, and Sam Moore. This La-Z-Boy conglomerate is the 6th-largest U.S. furniture company.

As furniture production has become less expensive overseas, Kincaid, along with all other U.S. furniture manufacturing companies, has had to adapt to the new trade-based economy. Merging with other furniture companies is one way to increase stability in a less-sure marketing environment.

Even though Kincaid is now a part of La-Z-Boy, the Kincaid name still holds its own and retains its hallmark qualities, as it has for over half a century now. The craftsmanship and quality associated with Kincaid has not been compromised, and the company continues to manufacture good products
