Do it yourself kids theme bedrooms:nascar furniture, crafts and decorating

Turn your child's bedroom into a full-fledged tribute to Nascar with the fun and easy-to-follow projects featured in this guide.

If race day finds your child racing to the T.V., it may be time to surprise him with his very own Nascar bedroom. Read on for several simple projects that promise to turn your child's room into a full-fledge tribute to Nascar.

Floor- Bring the excitement of the races into your child's room by painting a finish line across the floor. For this project you'll need masking tape, a package of letter stencils, some stencil adhesive, a paintbrush and a can of paint in the color of your choice. Once all of your supplies are gathered, start by running two parallel strips of masking tape across the floor about an inch apart. Then, fill in the open area with paint, and you'll have the perfect finish line. To create the word "finish" above the line, simply spray stencil adhesive on the back of the stencils; apply them to the floor; and fill in the voids with paint. Once the paint is dry, remove the stencils, and coat the area with polyurethane.

Walls- Selecting an appropriate paint color for the wall couldn't be easier; just match a sample to the color of your child's favorite race car, and you have a winner. Then, to give the walls even more Nascar-appeal, apply sponsor stickers, and the number of your child's favorite driver.

Night stand- For a fun nightstand idea, just stack three or four tire rims, and place a piece of Plexi-glass on top.

Bed- Bring big race action to your child's room by painting a racetrack around the wooden frame of his bed. To complete this project, simply paint a black track onto the bed frame, and then paint racecars at different intervals around the track. If you're looking for an easy way to do the cars, just pick up a racecar sponge from your local craft store, and use it to sponge on your design.

Pillows- Dress up your child's bed with a few tire-shaped throw pillows. Just pick up a few yards of black fabric, and sew several round pillows. Then finish by applying tread and a brand name with white fabric paint or a fabric marker.

Curtains- For a winning window treatment, pick up some black and white checkered fabric, and sew up a set of checkered flag curtains for your child's windows.

Dresser- To replace the standard dresser with one that's truly Nascar-worthy, purchase a mechanic's tool chest, or storage cabinet from your local department store, and put it's many drawers and compartments to use organizing your child's clothes and other belongings. It's the perfect cure for a cluttered bedroom!

Note: Most tool chests feature a top area with a pull down lid for storing frequently used tools. To make the most of this space, leave the lid open, and use it as a fun alternative to a bulletin board. The magnetic surface is perfect for posting reminder notes and other important items.

Try some of these projects, and your little racer will be well on his way to some high-speed fun.
