Do it yourself kids theme bedrooms:jungle furniture, crafts and decorating

Learn how to create a jungle theme in your child's room with the fun and easy-to-follow projects featured in this guide.

If you're looking to create a room where your little monkey can feel at home, then look no further. The following jungle-themed decorating ideas are sure to fit the bill:

Floor- Create the look of a dense jungle floor by cutting out leaf-shaped rugs from carpet remnants, and scattering them around the room. To create a template simply trace a leaf onto a sheet of paper, and then have the image enlarged at a copy center. For added visual interest, use two or more types of leaves, and several colors of carpet.

Walls- Green is the color of choice for a jungle-themed room. Paint the walls a light shade of green, and then paint or sponge large leaves onto the wall in a darker shade of green. To give the design a bit of dimension, add jungle vines along the top of the wall by suspending ropes from the ceiling, and gluing silk leaves to the ropes. Note: Be sure the vines are hung out of the reach of children.

Bedding- Give any sheet set a jungle feel by sponge painting various jungle bugs and animals onto the sheets and pillows. Visit your local craft store for a large section of jungle-themed paint sponges. Then, select some fabric paint, and go to work sponging on your design. You can even let your child take charge of this simple project.

Note: The paint may need to be heat set after application, refer to the product label for complete instructions. Once set, the paint will stand up to repeated washings, so there's no need for special treatment.

Dresser- Make the dresser blend into the rest of the room by decoupaging leaves to its surface. To complete this project you'll need several uncopyrighted leaf pictures, decoupage medium, scissors and a paintbrush. Then, once you have all of your materials gathered, simply cut out the leaf pictures; paint the backsides with decoupage medium; and apply the leaves to the dresser. Afterwards, apply several coats of decoupage medium to the front side of the leaves, and your dresser is complete. If you're looking for a fun way to update the dresser knobs, just paint or glue a bug onto each one.

Curtains- Continue the green color scheme with the window treatments by selecting a gauzy green fabric for the curtains. Then, give everyone a scare by winding a plastic snake around the top of the curtain rod. For even more creepy crawly fun, glue a few plastic spiders or other bugs to the curtains. Your child is sure to have lots of fun trying to spot all of the hidden critters.

Storage- Hide your child's clutter inside camouflaged storage bins. Just pick up several plastic storage containers, and hot glue silk leaves all over the outside of the container. No one will ever guess that these clever containers are masking a disastrous mess.

Use a few of these project ideas to transform your child's room into a private jungle hideaway, and he's sure to love the results!
