Kids rooms: sports themes for girls

Girls can have sports themed rooms too.

When planning bedrooms for girls, sports themes are the last thing considered. Don't girls play sports too? Use these ideas to create fantastic sports bedrooms for your daughters that still have a feminine touch.

Cheerleaders: A classic sports theme for girls is a cheerleader theme. Paint your girls room in either as soft pink or lilac. Use dorm style furniture with clean lines and metal details if possible. Instead of dressers, line a wall with actual sports lockers. You can have one locker for her makeup, with the inside of the door mirrored, another locker can hold school books and other school items when not in use, and other lockers can hold sports equipment or hobby materials. Next, make shadow box wall hangings from old cheerleading uniforms and hang the on the wall. You can make a bedside lamp from a light kit and a megaphone, and use a row of pom-poms in place of window valences. For the final touch, paint large stars on the walls using clear shimmer gloss paint, so they can subtly sparkle in the light.

Basketball: For your wall decoration, you can create a customized basketball banner online. The banner can include a picture of your child in her basketball outfit and the name and logo of her team. Install a real basketball hoop on the wall and position it above a wicker laundry basket in which you can store additional basketballs. Paint the room the colors of the child's favorite basketball team, or her own team colors. For the headboard of the bed have a large circle cut out of plywood, add batting and cover with fabric in the color of a basketball. Paint the details of the basketball with fabric paint.

Soccer: Paint a large soccer ball on the wall of your daughter's bedroom, using her favorite pastel color in place of black. In addition, randomly paint large "V's" (for Varsity), stars, and the words "all star" in script all over the walls. This wall treatment will go with any style bedding, from extremely girly to straight clean lined pieces. For bedding, purchase simple coordinating bedding and window treatments and create quilted pillows to match the soccer ball on the wall.

Softball: This room should be as simple as the game itself. Paint the wall in white and make thin dotted line pinstripes on the walls to resemble the stitching in a baseball. Paint a simple wooden pegboard with the word "champs" on it. Hang simple tab top window treatments on metal rods, but instead of finials, attach a baseball to each end of the rod. Purchase bedding to coordinate with your favorite teams, and make throw pillows from team Jerseys. Add a border either at the chair rail height or at the ceiling line by lining up bumper stickers that you can purchase on the internet.

Football: Yes, girls play football too, so girls should also have football themed bedrooms. Paint the bedroom walls a light color like pale yellow, and use denim bedding and window treatments. Purchase multiple wallpaper cutouts in the shapes of footballs and helmets and apply them randomly on the walls. Add footballs shaped knobs to pretty white dressers and football pulls to the window fan. To dress up the window treatments and comforter, decorate them with football iron-ons.
