Decorating Your Boy's Room Fireman Style

Your own customized Fire hall: How to create a fire hall themed room for your son.

The blare of the sirens and the flash of light coming from a fire truck will often send little boys into frenzy. What little boy doesn't dream of being a fireman when he grows up? If you are thinking about re-creating your son's room, you can't go wrong with a fire hall theme.

Starting with color, choose warm red tones for wall hue. There are many types of red, so to keep a calm flow in your child's space, try to avoid bright and garish tomato reds. For accent colors, black for furniture and white for trim work best. These colors will contrast with the red and provide a palette that is easy on the eye.

A fire hall theme is all about the accessories. Once your walls are painted, you are ready to tackle the bed. Little boys often have sleepovers, so having a bunk bed not only fulfills space restrictions but also gives them extra room for their friends. You can purchase a plain, wood bed frame from IKEA. Nothing creates an unfinished look to a room more than unpainted wood, so before putting the bed together paint the wood shiny black.

If you have concerns about your son sleeping on the top bunk of the bed, you can add an extra element to the room that will not only protect your child from falls, but will create the perfect fire truck bed. Using plywood, draw a fire truck outline that is slightly larger than the top railing of the bed. Cut out the drawing from the wood and paint the outline to match the look of an actual fire truck. Affix the truck to the top railing of the bunk bed, taking care that it is slightly more elevated than the railing. Like magic, you've turned a plain bunk bed into a magical fire truck for your son.

Looking to the floor, a large fire truck shaped kids area rug will pull your room together beautifully. If you can't find a shape exactly like a fire truck, you may be able to find one of the many road-based black area rugs that will give your child a map to drive their toys on for hours of fun playtime.

The details of a fire hall themed room are vital. If you have an older child, consider installing a real fire poll beside their bunk beds. Although not recommended for younger children due to falls, older kids will be overjoyed to be able to slide down their own fire poll each morning. Fire truck bedding is easy to find on the Internet, and can be found in shades of red or blue. Adding a few artfully framed photos of vintage fire trucks, window treatments to match the bedding, decorative fire hat knobs on the walls, and you will have created a full customized fire hall in your own home.

If you have the opportunity to give your child a themed room, you will not be disappointed by the results. Although it requires a lot of effort and extra expense for the details, a theme room such as a fire hall can create many happy memories for your children that will last years to come.
