Most furniture stores are going to have sales people working on a commission scale and therefore you must realize these folks have a personal stake in whether you buy or not. This is not a bad thing as some would have you believe. This means that this person is going to do his/her very best to get you to buy something. This can mean you are going to get a great deal if you make the salesperson believe that is the only way you are going to buy.

Try to be overly nice to your salesperson and you might even get lucky enough to make him or her like you. Kitchen sink is one of the most important things in your kitchen. You need it to prepare and dispose food, wash dishes etc. Installing a kitchen sink may seem tough and complicated and many of you may want to hire professionals to do it, but in fact, you can actually do it by yourself and save a lot of money. All you need is some simple instructions.

1. Properly locate the opening

Most sinks come with a template provided by the sink manufacturer to help you accurately mark the outline of the hole and ensure right placement. Place the template on the countertop. Make sure it is exactly where you want it and it must be placed so that it is at least 1.5 to 2 inches away from the countertop's edge. Stick the template with tape and draw a line around the edge with a marker directly onto the counter. Remove the template after you are done with this step.

2. Cut the opening

Drill 3/8-inch diameter holes at each corner of the marked opening. Use either jigsaw or saber-saw blade to cut out the piece following the marked lines. Remove the cut-out after you are done with the cutting procedure.

3. Install kitchen faucet and sink strainers

Before installing the kitchen sink, install the kitchen faucet or faucet sprayer first. After that, install the sink strainer.

4. Installing the kitchen sink

Flip the sink upside down. You can put some scrap sticks at the edges of the opening if you don't want the countertop to be scratched. It can also protect your fingers.

The sink is normally fixed with special mounting clips that are tightened with screwdriver. The spacing of the clips may vary. Refer to the manufacturer's manual.

5. Finishing up

The final step is to connect the sink the the parts underneath the sink. First connect the P-Trap. Then, connect the faucet lines to the hot and cold supply lines using flexible supply tubes. Connect the strainer to the drain pipe.

After making sure everything is connected safely, turn on the water to flush the system. Let it run for a few minutes and then reinstall the aerator. Your new sink is good to go!

DO thoroughly sand every inch of wood with rough-grit sandpaper before anything. After you sand all the finish with using rough-grit sand paper, then use fine-grit sand paper to prepare staining.

DON'T sand to deep in areas to remove scratches, you don't want peaks and valleys on your cabinet doors. If a scratch is still present after sanding the entire surface then use some wood filler.

DO use varnish remover and hand sanding techniques where your palm sander won't fit. Areas will be completely different, this will happen if you don't remove all the old finish before applying the new.

DON'T try to remove all the finish with just varnish remover. There's nothing easy about using a varnish removal even though they might say they are. You'll still have to dig or scrape old finish out from within cracks and corners while using a mask due to the fumes that could be breathed in. Then afterwords there'll be a mess to clean up. With that being said, that'll be a lot of work.

DO have and use "clean" rags to wipe stains. So don't buy brushes for applying stains as this method will just as easy (if not easier) then using a the brush method. There's more control using a clean rag while doing this by hand, plus you save money with not having to buy so many brushes.

DON'T toss foam brushes that you've used after each coat of varnish that you've put on. Please make sure to toss them within a plastic bag or plastic wrap between coats. Doing this will allow you to use them multiple times preventing you to have to buy lots of foam brushes as you'll be able to use them over and over. These foam brushes do not leave brush marks and there quit inexpensive.

A personalized bath can be your retreat from a long day at work. It's also an opportunity to really use what you already have in your space and turn it into something that is really special to you. You won't have to spend a lot of money to accomplish this. You may want to go with a style that really works with the architectural details and from the same era as your house. Another option would be to take it in a totally different design direction. It really just depends on what kind of look and feeling you want in your space.

Have fun with color. This is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to get a totally new look in a bathroom. It's not just for your walls. Depending on the flooring you may even be able to paint your floors for an updated and fresh look. You could also paint any molding, mirror frames, doors, and vanities in your space. This allows you to easily take out wood tones. These dated wood tones can often seem quite heavy in your room and your first instinct may just be that you totally have gut your entire space. This is just as simple as priming and painting them with a fresh new color. The color that you choose will determine the style. If you want a relaxing or spa like atmosphere then considered a tan, white or green. Gray can also work with this kind of design style and you can mix in some purple or blue accents. If you want a room that will help wake you up in the morning then consider a yellow or orange.

Apply a treatment to the walls. Of course this needs to be a little bit water resistant. However, this will give you a high end and designer touch that will be totally different from most other people's bathrooms. A few options for this would be wainscoting for a country or traditional look. If you want to go country then keep it bright white. You could also put an oversized stencil on the walls that could mimic wallpaper. You could even have fun with a lot of different tile work.

For instance you could try doing mosaic tile on one wall or just on part of one wall. You could even use broken bits of tile and china for a one-of-a-kind look that will have a rustic and Southwest feel to it that will be very interesting. Of course with any kind of wall treatment you may want to make sure that you to keep things to scale and use a little bit of restraint. You don't want to make a small space seem even smaller.

One place to check is garage sales. This may be the most time consuming methods to finding new furniture since you will have to drive around town and just hope that there is something there for you to purchase. But if you do find what you want, it will be extremely cheap.

Use Craigslist and search for discounted furniture or maybe even free furniture. Lots of times times people are moving and will list a variety of good quality furniture that they need to get rid of. Much of the time you will get an extremely good deal on items of quality.

Most cities will have a local Freecycle group. This is a group that will let people recycle their products with other people in the group who needs it. If you want to get rid of something, you give it to someone in the group. If you need something like furniture, you might be able to pick up items this way for free.

Check apartment complex dumpsters at the end of the month or the end of the school semester. Many times people move out and don't take everything with them. You will not only have a chance of finding free furniture but can also pick up appliances as well that you might not have already.

For certain items, think of going without. You are already living in a small space since you are in an apartment and just might not need every piece of furniture that you think you might need. Try going without it first and see if you really need it or not.

The variety of home furniture in the market is so huge that customers are easily confused over what to go for. Furniture size, colour, type and more need to be put into consideration and the room that the furniture would eventually reside in coupled with the residents of the house need to be kept in mind before making your selection.

The first question you would need to ask yourself is whether you have little kids at home. If you do, then it would influence the make of furniture you might go for. In the past preparation included power sanding, scrapping and caulking. This took a long time especially if one wanted to create a smooth surface and in reality almost impossible if there were already two or more coats of paint applied. Today, primer technology has advanced in this field to help make this job easier and faster and at the same time protecting the sidings, wood, decks and stucco. When you start an exterior project today, you still have to scrape and sand, however, only to eliminate the loose paint without worrying about the imperfections. Once the sanding is done and cleaned you can start applying a BONDING primer, one or two coats. This special primer will seal, coverup, smoothen out, and create a new and flat surface again without the need to replace old wood, stucco, aluminum. Once this is completed, you can start applying your top finish exterior paint and enjoy your brand new look again and for a long time.

Please be aware, applying bonding primer is not an easy task. A proper process has to be followed to achieve the proper result. Following such a process will minimize costs but taking shortcuts may result in future problems especially if the primer does not properly bond with the surface underneath. That is why it is always advisable to contact a professional and experienced painter.

Think about decorating styles you have seen and liked. Your choices can range from Early American, Victorian, and Mediterranean to Contemporary styles. The decorating style you choose will give you a good starting point when choosing colors for your new home.

Does the thought of choosing your own paint colors scare you? Many hardware stores have painting/design centers that are a great resource. Go to the library or buy interior decorating and design books or magazines. Home shows are a fun way to learn what the latest trends are.

Think about putting a finish on your walls. Decorative finishes add dimension and character to a room. You can choose finishes like sponging, ragging, faux leather, stenciling, dragging, combing, spattering, faux marbling or stippling will give your home a classic look.

What color is your furniture? Choose colors that complement your furniture not clash with it.

Consider the kind of light that you get in each room. Know the direction your windows are facing. South facing windows will have sun most of the day. East or West facing windows will get sun in the morning or afternoon. North facing windows have indirect sunlight. Sunlight will make your colors look more natural.

Artificial lights affect how you will see the colors. Incandescent lights will make colors look warmer and redder than natural sunlight. Florescent lights will make colors look bluer and cooler than natural sunlight.

Decide on what time of day you will be in the room the most. Choose your colors based on the light you will be using. When you are checking out color samples for a room, check them out it at the time of day that you will be using the room.

Is the room big or small? Dark walls make a room feel smaller. Light walls make a room feel larger. Dark ceilings will make the ceiling feel lower. Light ceilings will make them feel higher and the room will feel larger.

What colors are you using in the rest of house? If you see the walls of the other rooms from the room you are in, make sure your colors complement each other. You don't want to have warm earthy colors throughout the house and then paint one room a bright robin's egg blue!

What will you use the room for? If you want a room to relax in, use calming colors. If it is a room for the family to play games and watching TV you can use bright colors.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's only paint! You will be able to select your colors for your new home with confidence when you follow these basic design tips.

The first step in installing new knobs is to choose the right ones. There is such a wide variety of these in the local stores and on the internet that it might often be difficult to choose which ones are the best for you. All you need to remember is that the knobs you purchase should be in colors that go with the general theme of your room, should be made of materials that are in sync with the rest of the decor and should be as much of a reflection of your artistic personality as possible. After this there are a few technical things that need to take care of such as the make and size of the screws that will come with the knobs and so forth.

An example will make clearer how to choose knobs made from the right material. If you are looking for new knobs for kitchen keep in mind the general decor of the entire kitchen. If you have a majority of stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, it is better idea to go for knobs made of stainless steel, pewter or nickel instead of the more fancy types made of brass. Furthermore, glass knobs also work great in kitchens. Knobs made from many other materials are also available including porcelain, ceramic, wood and oil rubbed bronze which have a very rich look.

Knobs can be installed very easily and simply. All you need is a basic screwdriver and nails that match your dresser. One important thing you need to do before installing the models is to mark the spot where you will screw them in so that they are all in a straight line. Once you have done that simple drill a hole and hold the knob on the outside of the dresser over the hole and turn the nail in from the inside of the drawer with your hand and then at the end finish screwing the nail in with a screwdriver. Repeat this with all the knobs and in no time at all, your room will have a great new look.

Having ceramic tiles as your flooring will freshen up any home that needs a bit of a face lift. Not only that but it will allow you to easily clean your floor at any time. Maintenance is a breeze. Also having this flooring in your home means less need for carpets, since the tiles are beautiful as they are with the various models that you have chosen for your own room accent.

Here are a few tips for laying ceramic tile the easy way.

When you start the installation process go from the floor center outwards. You need to get the first tile right, else everything else will be crooked as well. Keep adequate distance between the tiles to be able to add the grout for laying it all properly.

There are some tiles that have an adhesive backing and this is even easier to install than the traditional ones. Basically you can use this tiling right away with less effort and time spent. However be aware that the material is not ceramic but synthetic, so there will be a slight difference when the floor is actually finished.

Before laying the new floor you need to properly remove the previous layer of linoleum or whatever other material you had before. Also don't forget to mop and hoover away any dust and debris from the surface so your new tiling won't be bumpy in places. Also make sure you select the right tile size for your flooring. It will make a difference in the final look of your floor.

The 'Credit Crunch' that is currently gripping the nation, however, has served to make some of us more aware of simple things like lighting. We are all trying to save money and conserve energy to keep ourselves afloat, and one aspect of that is looking at areas where electricity can be saved. For those of us who are in this mode of thinking, there are solutions to the problem. Products can be purchased to bring our bills down and provide an answer.

One such product that is fast becoming popular is low voltage downlights. These lights use much less energy than normal downlights, thus saving money on electricity bills. They have an IP20 rating and are easy to maintain. This makes them ideal for places like underneath worktops or desks, especially as they come in stylish, modern designs, including satin brass or brushed nickel finishes. Low voltage downlights are relatively inexpensive to buy, and will be well worth the money saving in the long run, especially as they tend to be sold in sets of five or more. Most sets will also come with a mini connector and cable included, so these will not need to be bought separately. Some low voltage downlights cannot be used in bathrooms, however, due to the moisture. In this case, specialist bathroom lighting will need to be bought.

Low voltage downlights are not the only way of saving money on your lighting costs, however. It is possible to buy products including replacement halogen bulbs, spotlights and transformers that are low voltage, to help save costs. Even lighting that you may not immediately think of, such as cabinet bulbs and spotlights come in low voltage versions.

It is not only the residential household that needs to save money, either. Many businesses are reeling in their costs; encouraging employees to take simple steps to save money such as turning off their computers and lights at the end of the working day. However, sometimes lights must be on in a workplace for a considerable amount of time; cleaners often work after hours as well as those working overtime. To counteract this, low voltage downlights and other lights suited for the commercial setting can be purchased. One example of these is low voltage transformers.

Some people and/or businesses may not be tightening their purse strings at the moment, but it seems that the majority are definitely looking around for cheaper solutions to their running costs. Lighting is only one aspect, but it is a primary concern and it is essential that energy saving products continue to evolve.
