One of the most important things that you need to address in working with basement rooms is the presents of water in the basement. How do you deal with the assurance that you will not have a water problem?
First you should check to see if the slope away from the sides of your house foundation is such that water will run away from your house and not toward your foundation or even sit around the foundation of your house.
Next critical thing to check are the gutters and down spouts that move the water from rains away from your house. Most houses already have downspouts and gutters attached to the house when they are built. If not, you need to make sure they are installed on your roof area. The downspouts also need to be directed away from the house for proper drainage of water
Be sure to repair any cracks and holes that might be in the foundation of your basement walls or floor. After you repair any cracks or holes it is advisable to also seal your walls from the inside of your Basement Rooms with a basement concrete sealing product sold in most building supply stores.
One thing that also works to keep the pressure of outside water from building up as to cause leaks in your foundation is to install a sump pump. All these techniques for waterproofing your basement rooms are good ways to assure you that your water problems will be minimized when you remodel your basement.
