Tips to Being Creative When Decorating Your House

Before you decide on a color for the room your about to decorate, take some time to think about the way you want it to come across. Do you want to be creative or standard? Do you have some patterns you want to use? If you going to decorate conservatively, what base color should you start with? If your going to be creative, how wild do you want to be? Are you the person that can pull this off, or will you hire this done.

If your going to hire a professional, can you describe what you want them to do? They will have many things to chose from so your imagination can only be constrained by your wallet. Here are a few tips to give you something to think about as you progress through this maze of decoration ideas.

First: Think Of A Theme

The Theme will come from your answers of the following questions. What idea do you have for this room? What is the general use of the room? What style and color are the furniture in this room? How crowded is the room? Who will be the principle user of this room? Is your room contemporary, or modern? All of these questions can change the theme of the room that your going to do the work in.

Second: What Is The Medium

There are several different mediums to use but the two most common are paint and wall paper. We are particularly focusing on paint in this article but just to add to this many painted rooms will also use wall paper around the room. For instance in place of the crown molding. You can find many border strips that look good and have a variety of themes. You can also apply murals using wall paper that will complement your theme. That could go on one wall and you could paint the other 3 walls.

Third: Mix And Match

When it comes to painting your house, there are actually no rules involved. So if you are that type of person who would like to see different things all in one angle, you can mix and match different colors in your house. Not only do these look good, it actually adds more excitement to your house. Having a healthy mix of colors around you can make you feel better while you are in it.

Besides mixing wall paper with paint, you can get a different effect by using two or more different colors of paint. These could complement one another or they could be a total contrast. Many color combinations look good and can work with the different color furniture that you have. Not only do contrasts look good, but they quite often are very up-lifting also. I could be just what the Dr. ordered. Even though you can carry this to extremes, if you are worried about this go to your local paint store and ask some questions about what they think about the colors that you want to put together.

Forth: Artwork On The Walls

Can you draw? Why don't you try to put a design on your walls? After all, if your doing it in paint, you can always paint over something if you don't like it. If you do decide to do this remember that the artist is usually his or her worst critic. So once you put it up there and paint it one the wall, leave it there. When someone else looks at it don't ask them if they can see your mistakes. Just because you know where they are doesn't mean anyone else does.

Only one caution, and that would be not to over do with graphics, unless there is definitely a reason to over do it. Maybe a basement or garage wall will take a wild combination but bedrooms or living rooms are best left to a little less BLAST. What ever you do make sure you and your family, or those living in the same home are comfortable with the way you've finished the room.
