The Art of Hanging Paintings

Putting paintings up on a wall is something that some people get right and other people get very wrong. It is possible to walk into a room and be very impressed with everything, including the artwork, but it is possible to also walk into a room and notice the lack of artwork or poorly placed or chosen art work. Something to consider to start with is the type of painting which suits the room. It is possible to mix old and new things, modern and older but it does have to be very carefully done. We will all realise that Van Gogh Paintings would not suit a very modern room, but it is important to also think about the colours of the room and whether they match those in the paintings as well as the size of the paintings and whether they will look right in the size of the room. A big canvas really needs a big room with a high ceiling unless you have just one as a focal point.

The amount of pictures you have is also important to think about. Having a huge clutter of pictures may not look right in a room that is already very busy but if you have a matching set, they could work all carefully placed together. The height that you hand the pictures is important too. If you want to look at them standing up then they will need to be higher up than if they are more likely to be admired from sitting down. Also you will need to carefully place them so that look correct with the height of the ceiling and any furniture that is in the room. It is not just a matter of popping a few pretty art paintings on the wall but there needs to be a lot more thought if you want to make a real impact and impression with the art work that you choose to display.

So give it a lot of thought and plan carefully to be sure that what you are buying and the position that you are thinking of putting it in is right for the picture. If you have a particular picture that you really like then it may even be worth considering decorating your room t make sure that it matches in with the picture. It may seem a bit extreme but it could have stunning results.
