Of course, not everyone can afford to just run out and replace their furnace and plus, electric heat costs more to run.
One thing that you really have to watch for is carbon monoxide poisoning. This is a colorless and odorless gas that can cause you many different medical problems, including death. If you find that you, your family or even your pets are acting strange and are feeling dizzy, it is important to get everyone out of the house and then call for help. Do not stay in the home to use the phone because you could be seconds away from brain damage or death.
Another thing that you want to be careful with is the flame within the furnace. Gas furnaces can cause fires or explosions when certain things are stored near them. It is very important to make sure that all sides of the furnace are free from clutter. In addition, if you ever smell gas, which smells like rotten eggs, it is important that you do not light any match or lighter and that you leave the house right away.
This is not meant to scare you but rather inform you of the things that you need to watch out for. Gas furnaces can be an excellent way to stay warm during the winter months but you just have to be a little cautious when using them.
