Whenever you want to renovate your home, proper illumination should be one of the points to look at. Most probably it should be changed to something better that saves on electricity while at the same time giving you a modern and fresh ambient to any room.
There are three main lighting types available nowadays: task, accent and for general illumination.
When you use accent lighting, you are basically focusing the light on a particular item of interest or to a particular location. For example you might have a piece of art that you want displayed in your living room for the guests to really take notice of it.
General lighting is used to give light to various area without pinpointing the light source to a specific focused location. There are many lamps that can achieve this easily, particularly those that have the lighting from the bottom up. Floor lamps and chandeliers are typical of this type.
Tasks lighting is used when you might want to do some needlework or other crafts that need a focused, pointed illumination. You could have such a piece in your kitchen over the counter, or in your office when you need to do some evening work. Also children can use such lamps to help them prepare their homework in the evening.
Before changing the lighting sources at home, consider first what you have available right now and what you could do to enhance the illumination in the rooms while at the same time offering a more modern and elegant decor in them. Then you can go ahead and buy the type that you will mostly need for your home renovation.
