Interior Shutters Add Class to Any House

Interior shutters not only have practical uses but serve aesthetic purposes as well. If you are not particularly fond of curtains or blinds, shutters might be a great option for you. Shutters are usually easy to care for and will last a very long time if maintained properly. There are many styles of interior shutters and they will noticeably alter the appearance of any room. Interior shutters are mostly used to block out sunlight and to provide privacy while exterior shutters are used to provide protection from the weather and to add to the architectural style of a house.

The most common types of interior shutters are plantation shutters and the louver traditional interior shutters. Both of these shutters will add value to your home as well as style. Although interior shutters are making a comeback in popularity, they still are for the most part a rarity. Most homeowners go with the usual wooden blinds, faux wood blinds, or cheap metal blinds.

Interior shutters usually fit inside your windows. Sometimes they mount ot the outside of the window and depending on the shutter style, some need more window depth than others. If you are able to mount the shutters inside the window, they will look more natural and look more like they are part of the window.

When looking at interior shutters, you are not limited to just a few styles. You can buy a large selection of interior shutters that have all sorts of configurations. Shutters can be single tier units or double tier units with two sets of panels. Shutters can be bought that only cover the lower part of a window or the top part. They can be made out of a variety of woods and can be painted and stained any way you like.

Basswood seems to be the best and most popular wood for shutters due to the fact that it is both light and strong. Other reasons it is popular is that it is easy to glue and to stain and it does not warp easily. Whenever you deal with wood you may have issues with warping and so basswood is a fine choice for shutters for this reason.

Shutters have been around for generations and they have endured because they provide classic style, are easy to maintain, and are long lasting. You can usually see them on many historical buildings both in the US and in Europe. Now you might think of putting them on or in your house as well!
