Ideas For Enhancing Your Bedroom Decor By Sewing A Straight Line | If you have the skills to sew a straight line, then you have the skills to redecorate your bedroom. Just by finding some great fabric you can transform your bedroom into an oasis. You can create any number of bedroom furnishings by simply sewing a straight line. Pick fabrics and patterns that work well together, and create your own look with bedding and curtains.
Straight Line Curtains.
Begin by measuring the windows. To decide how long your curtains should be, measure from the curtain rod to the floor, and then add the depth of the pocket plus ½ inch and the hem plus ½ inch. To determine how wide you want your fabric to be, measure the width of your window and add six inches, and this will make one curtain panel. You will need two panels for the window. As you choose your fabric, notice the direction of the print on the fabric, and make sure that it will orient in the room correctly.
You must first hem the sides of each panel. With the right side facing down fold ½ inch of fabric towards you and iron. Next, fold 1 1/2 inches of fabric toward you to make the hem and then iron into position. Now sew a straight line down each edge of each panel to hem. Fold over one-half inch on the top edge and iron, and next fold over a pocket for the rod. Now iron and sew another straight line on each panel. Move to the bottom hem and fold over ½ inch and iron, and then fold over the width of the hem and iron again. Sew your straight line across the bottom hem of each panel, and your curtain panels are completed. It really is that easy.
Table Skirting with Straight Lines.
To dress up your bedside table, you can cover it with a table skirt. Find a fabric that complements the curtains that you just completed. You can also use a table skirt to hide storage underneath and give your room a clutter free look. Just cut the fabric to the right size, turn under the hem, and then sew.
Straight Line Bed Skirt.
You can dress up your bed using a bedskirt and hide under bed storage bins and your unsightly box spring mattress. When creating the bedskirt, measure the width and length of your bed, and then add an additional inch on either side. Use an old flat sheet to make the base of the skirt. Now measure from the top of the box spring to the floor in order to get the height of the bed skirt and then add an surplus inch for hemming. Cut three lengths of your bed skirt, one for the right side, one for the left side and one for the foot of the bed, and leave a one-inch seam to connect the pieces.
Now sew the three pieces together and fold under the hem. Iron the hem and sew. Attach the bed skirt to a flat sheet, being cautious to line up the corner seams with the corners of the sheet. You can invariably opt to leave the bed skirt panels open, and then hem each side before you attach them.
Now that you have sewn a straight line to totally different bedroom you can then finish off your new look with a stylish copper metal art, abstract wood art or other styles of metal wall sculptures that fit your taste. By:Kenneth Warren
