How to polish Marble by yourself

Marble is a beautiful stone to have on display in a home, whether in the form of a counter top, sink or tile. In order to keep your marble looking as beautiful as the day it was installed, it is important to consistently hone and polish this precious stone. There are a variety of ways to keep your marble in its best condition.

Regular Cleaning

The best way to prevent having to repolish your marble floors is to perform regular cleaning. Every so often, wipe down your marble with warm water and wipe dry with a separate towel. A light coat of wax is helpful as well. About twice a year, marble should be cleaned with a hand-washing detergent as well as warm water.
Polishing on Your Own

The best way to polish your marble yourself isn't necessarily the easiest way to go about the job. It requires a floor buffing machine, a heavy drive plate with Velcro holders for diamond spacers, a diamond spacer, diamond sanding pads, plastic sheeting, a wet vac and plenty of sponges and rags. Anything that can be damaged by water must be covered. You will need to strip any sealer or wax from the marble, and put diamond space holders and pads in place. You need to pour clean and cold water on the marble, and keep the surface wet while grinding. Use the floor machine on the marble. After grinding, wet vac the area to ensure no spots were missed. This can be repeated on each section of tile until the polishing is finished.

Commercial Marble Polishing

If you don't consider yourself a handyman, but still would like your marble polished, contact a professional. There are many professionals out there who are willing to take a look at your marble and give you a quote on the cost. Professionals can also add extras to your marble, such as slip resistant floors or an extra gloss so the marble looks even more beautiful than ever.
