How to Get the Best Deal When Buying New Furniture

So many folks nowadays are not aware of the deals or bargains they can strike when buying furniture for their homes. They will walk into a furniture store and happily pay sticker price for their furniture. What might shock those same people is that the mark up on many items in furniture stores can be several hundred percent. So what can you do to get the best deal when you next go furniture shopping?

Well, I will admit that I have never personally sold furniture so I'm sure there are things I am missing but I have been in sales for more than 10 years including a few years selling cars and if you know how to haggle a good car deal then you are all set to also haggle a good deal on your new furniture.

Most furniture stores are going to have sales people working on a commission scale and therefore you must realize these folks have a personal stake in whether you buy or not. This is not a bad thing as some would have you believe. This means that this person is going to do his/her very best to get you to buy something. This can mean you are going to get a great deal if you make the salesperson believe that is the only way you are going to buy.

Try to be overly nice to your salesperson and you might even get lucky enough to make him or her like you. Speaking from experience its much easier to give someone a great deal when you really like them. You might even go above and beyond to make sure they are getting a good deal. Imagine yourself selling something you own to a friend. Would you really ask what it was worth or would you be interested in giving them a great deal so they walked away feeling good? For me it was always the same with selling cars and I'm sure it is also the same for many people who sell furniture for a living.

Next time you go furniture shopping go ahead and try a few of these tips out and see if you are not able to get a better deal. You might actually be shocked at just how much you can get knocked off but also be aware that some stores do not mark their items up near as much so always make sure you are making a fair offer for whatever you'd like to buy. Go too low and you might end up offending someone.
