How To Decorate Your Foyer

When it comes to decorating your foyer it's important to have a foyer that is welcoming and inviting at the same time. It's the first place people see when the walk into your home. It's also the last place they see when they are leaving.

In order to achieve that look there are several different ways that you can redecorate your foyer and dress it up without costing a lot of money from you. When considering redecorating your foyer you need to figure out the look you are trying to go for. Do you want something old fashioned or Victorian? Maybe you want something that is contemporary, modern or maybe you want something that is very sophisticated. This will not only be easy to do but you will have fun doing it. Here are some suggestions.

Of course you can add anything you want in your foyer; stain glass windows, lighting, rugs, curtains and more. It's always your decision as to what you want to go with. Some of the simple changes you can make to your foyer would include
- mirrors
- shelves
- lighting fixtures
- floor lamps
- corner tables
- antique furniture such as a small dresser or antique coat rack

There are several different ways that you can decorate and change the look of your foyer by adding things you probably already have in your home.

The next least expensive way to change the look of your foyer includes purchasing white paneling or other wall covering that will brighten up your foyer. This is a good idea if your foyer is smaller than usual. You may also want to paint your walls a bright solid color and use stencil or wall paper to enhance the look that you are going with. When you do that you can be sure to get the look that you want without spending a lot of money. Using stencil is easy to do and on walls you have a lot of open space which makes painting easier than ever.

Foyer Lighting

The lighting you decide on in your foyer needs to be bright enough to welcome your guests but not seem like a spot light beaming down on them when they enter. The light fixture can be something that looks expensive or something that looks casual and economical. You may want to place a lamp in your foyer so you can offer a soft glow when it's weathering outside or if it is late at night.

Flooring in your Foyer

You want to have flooring that is coordinates with the look you are trying to create in your foyer. This may be carpeting, linoleum or hardwood flooring. Keep in mind that the foyer is the first place people come in to take off their shoes or to visit so you may want to stay away from carpets that are expensive. Instead try using linoleum or hardwood floors. That way you can mop up any messes easily and conveniently. Another alternative is the use of area rugs; something like a bamboo rug is an easy to care for, attractive alternative.

Finish up your foyer with a bench or seat to sit down on for those that struggle to take their shoes off and maybe add a few coat hangers where jackets can be displayed.
