How To Create An Elegant Interior Decor Style

Home decorating can be both fun and exciting, especially if you know what you are hoping to achieve. Everyone has their own style in mind when they begin their decorating project. Regardless of what end result people look for, whether it's a certain culture, a specific color scheme or a certain style, there is one thing they all usually have in common. They want the end result to be elegant.

If you're hoping to have an interior design that's elegant, there are a few ideas you can use to reach your goal. The two most important factors you need to consider are your budget and what you want to get from your home decor.

1. Consider your budget for your makeover

You need to know at the beginning of your decorating plans just how much money you have to work with. You don't want to choose a specific elegant scheme and get all excited about it only to discover your finances won't cover it. So, decide right off the bat what you have to spend, making sure you don't cut it too close.

2. Know the style that you're after

Secondly, you need to know exactly what you want the end result to look like. Shopping will be a lot easier, quicker and more exciting if you know what you're looking for. Some people hire a home interior designer to help them with the planning, but if this isn't in your budget, don't fret. You can do the planning and shopping yourself, with a little organization. You'll find there are many ideas available to help you create the elegant look you want for your home.

3. Use a classical French interior style

Classical French Interior is a very popular decorating style for your home. Not only is it beautiful and elegant, but there are designs in this scheme that will please both the men and women living in the home. Characteristic of this style of interior decor are neutral colors like tan or beige with stone on the wall and wood or panelling on the bottom part of the walls. This is very similar to wainscoting except with classical French Interior, you may use some ornamentation.

Furniture or accessories for this style may be French style chairs, wood chest of drawers or end tables and elegant wall art including tapestries and paintings. Window treatments might be tall curtains in creams or deep browns. If you enjoy classic decor with a refined appearance, you'll love this elegant style.

If you enjoy this style but want a more dramatic elegant effect, you may choose patterned wallpaper with a predominant color in your home. Other areas of your home such as the guest room, stairway or foyer can have some other coordinating color. Your interior doors may be a rich brown along with occasional panelling, often on just one wall.

4. Use the Manhattan apartment elegant style

A more modern elegant style is Manhattan apartment style. The same aesthetics and style are present as what you see in the French style but with some restraint. When you enter a room decorated in this style, you'll still see the elegance, but it won't be so characteristic of a certain era or time period. Rather, it has more of a modern appearance, with a wider range of art and larger variety of furniture.

Wallpaper is still very popular with this style as well as wood walls, but the elegant wallpaper used has a modern twist to it. The thing to remember about this style is that you're trying to create a feel of elegance but with a modern take on an older style. Look for items with elegance, be it wallpaper, furniture or wall art, but with a more modern style influencing it.

So there you have it.

These ideas will quickly get you heading in the right direction when it comes to choosing a modern decor for your home. A visit to interior design showrooms or model homes will often give you many ideas. Take a notepad with you and take notes as to what you see and enjoy. You'll have a lot of fun planning your renovation and can look forward to the finish that you're after.
