If you find house painting hard, sit back and read on because you will learn a few things to make it a little easier in the next few lines. House Painting is not something that your born with, it is a skill. It's something that you can learn without too much studying. Most people learn these things with experience. That helps but you can learn a little here to.
You already know the difference between different compounds that need to be painted. Wood is the main surface that we paint. Cement is another one that we paint, even though it doesn't need to be protected like wood paint still will improve the looks of it.
Painting Wood
Wood takes constant maintenance. If it isn't protected in most climates it will start to rot right away. Even though wood is strong used in the proper way, it will change it's properties after a few years if it isn't protected. The type of the wood and the what it's being used for dictates the type of finish that you should apply. Some woods and there uses determined that they can and should be painted ether with a oil base paint or a latex base paint. If you decide to paint your wood, it may be best to use a primer to start with before you apply the color paint.
The reason to protect the wood with a paint or varnish is to keep the wood from rotting. If the wood that your going to protect has already started to rot, dry rot or has termite holes or weather damage you may want to fix or replace that damaged area before proceeding.
Painting Cement
Some of the areas of your house don't have wood in or on them. The second most used commercial building material is Cement. A lot of basements and most foundations are made of either cement or cement blocks. If your going to paint this area of your house you much prep the area first. I would suggest that you use a pressure washer to clean up the cement or cement blocks before you lay on the paint. If you find cracks or holes, they should be filled and smoothed over so that after the paint job the previous damage would be covered up.
After you have filled the cracks and holes and smoothed them off, take inventory on the other surfaces to see if there are any irregularity's. After this is done touch up these spots with the pressure washer again and then let the whole area dry, then you'll be ready to lay down some paint.
Other Details
The first areas to paint will be the large areas. That would be the main walls and the ceiling. Then paint the doors and window panes. After the windows and doors have been painted start on all the trim with the first to be done at the top of the room. Check all of the moving parts, such as door handles and hinges to make sure they all work. If not spend the time repairing them now. Some of these components are not to be painted so make a quick check as to what is to be done.
If you have cabinets and cupboards and working surfaces that will be painted with a different paint color or style or eve are mask off the area that will be different. Some cabinets have glass in the doors. Check them all over to be sure they don't have to be replaced.
With these house painting tips, painting your house should be much easier.
