Getting a Basic Modern Kitchen

It is amazing how quickly a kitchen that was built even ten years ago can be viewed as a thing of the past. Technology updates itself so rapidly these days that appliances out-date themselves extremely quickly, sometimes even within a single year! While this can be intimidating to many, the good news is that it is not very hard to secure a basic modern kitchen, and all it takes is a little knowledge about appliances.

When people decide to build modern kitchens, they instantly worry about the cost of brand new appliances. Walking into a department store and looking at the price tags on state of the art ovens, dishwashers and refrigerators can be enough to make you throw out the whole idea of updating your kitchen. The fact is, however, that there are plenty of modern appliances that can be purchased without giving up an arm and a leg. A good place to start is with your oven. Instead of spending thousands of dollars on a double oven, consider purchasing one nice, up-to-date oven that has plenty of room, a bright light, a broiler and even heating. For the average person, this is all that is necessary. While it is nice to have digital readouts and built in thermometers, these are luxuries and should be avoided if you are trying to go basic.

The same principle goes for the stove. While we would all love to have a state-of-the-art gas flame stove, you can get a nice, basic electric range that is plenty modern for your needs. Contemporary ranges are perfect for modern kitchens and are worlds better than their historic counterparts. The one place where you may not want to skimp is your refrigerator, as keeping food cold and fresh is of utmost importance. However, this doesn't mean that you need to spend a fortune. Look for a basic refrigerator that is proven to withstand the test of time but does not include fancy features such as a built in television.

Your dishwasher should also be up-to-date, as old dishwashers were inefficient when it came to energy use and sanitation ability. There is nothing better than having a good, modern dishwasher, as it will save you hours per week in cleaning, as well as headaches. Also, be sure that you have a large, stainless steel sink that is capable of holding large stock pots and other things that won't fit in the dishwasher. You'll also want to have a hose attachment to make cleaning easier.

The main attraction in a modern kitchen is tile flooring. If your kitchen has hardwood of carpeted floors, this should be the first thing that you change, as they are hard to clean and easily attract spills and messes. Tile flooring can be beautifully attractive if installed correctly, and is a cinch to clean. Go to your local flooring expert and explain your situation and what you are going for.

If you employ these simple suggestions, you will be on your way to owning a beautiful, efficient and modern kitchen.
