Different Styles and Types of Conservatories

There are many different styles and types of conservatories on the market and when you are choosing one, it is important to select a type that suits the style you envisage that will compliment your residence and a type that will also suit the use that you wish to put the conservatory to. Here is a basic list of the most popular types of conservatories on the market today.

Victorian Conservatories: One of the most popular types of conservatories, due to there versatility and timelessness. Has rounded front facets (sides) that give it a soft appearance and has an ornate finish.

Edwardian Conservatories: They are similar in style and shape to a Victorian conservatory, except that they are rectangular in shape (no soft edges). This can be an advantage due to the fact that more use is made of the available floor space.

Victorian & Edwardian Double Hipped Conservatories: Same style, but with a different roof design, sloping at the rear, which allows them to be incorporated into a building with height restrictions.

Lean-to Conservatories: Also known as Mediterranean style or garden room conservatories: These conservatories are timeless and unfussy with a single pitch roof and are probably one of the most popular types of conservatories. They are very simple, very flexible, have a modern feel and make good use of ground space. One other point worth

Pavilion Conservatories: Also called gable fronted conservatories because they have a front side that resembles the gable of a house. These conservatories make good use of floor space and have added ceiling height, which allow added light into the room.

Gull Wing Conservatories: They have an angled section on each side of a flat central section, which can be flexible in length. Most often styled like a Victorian conservatory.  

P-Shaped, T-Shaped, B-Shaped and L-Shaped Conservatories: These are conservatories that have a floor shape similar to that of the letter they are named after. They are useful to allow you to build a conservatory to suit your individual needs. You  

Lantern Roof Conservatories: These are conservatories with a second roof up in the first roof with a row of glass separating the two roofs. They have advantages in being  

Orangeries: Orangeries are an evocatively descriptive term for a more sold type of lean-to construction.  

Bespoke Conservatories: These are simply conservatories that are designed to an individuals tastes or requirements. They may be a mixture of several styles and have the obvious advantage of being built and fitted to suit the owner of the residence.
