When you have a little one on the way, you'll soon realize that babies come with a lot of stuff. Here's how to create a beautiful and inexpensive room for your baby that will be relaxing and functional.
If your walls are already painted a nice shade, don't bother repainting. You can always change the look of the room with a wallpaper border that matches your baby's bedding.
You do not need an expensive crib for your baby to be safe. National standards are required whether your crib is $99 or $450. So feel free to go to IKEA for your crib, and get one that converts for when you toddler needs a regular bed.
Use a dresser as a changing table. You can get highend changing table, but they might have a poor design and will be useless in two years. With a dresser, you can put the changing pad on top of it. It's great for storage for a child of any age.
Ask family for rocking chairs, lamps (you can always change the lampshade), and useful storage furniture. You can always paint them white for a nice, clean nursery look.
When choosing a decor, try to keep it gender neutral. You might be having a boy this time around... but maybe you'll have a little girl next. If the nursery is for a boy or a girl, your little boy can move to another bedroom and the little girl can use the nursery.
When you have all of the necessities, start looking at toys, board books, and colorful artwork for the walls. For great multicultural gifts, check out Barefoot Books.
