Cultural Pottery For Your Home

Cultural expression is important to many people around the world. Nothing reflects historical culture quite like pottery does. There are a number of difference cultures that have their own antique pottery colors, style, and design. Many cultures also have their own special method of creating pottery. The gathering of the clay, the potter's wheel, the shaping and the designing of the pottery can vary from culture to culture. You can theme your home with remnants of your culture, or of a culture that you happen to admire.

African, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, American, Japanese and Chinese cultures all have special pieces of pottery. Sometimes it takes a true expert to determine which culture and which era a certain piece of pottery comes from. Almost every one of these cultures has a pottered piece that is used for a potted plant or is a vase. It is the texture of the pottery itself, as well as the designs that make each piece unique.

Archaeologists can sometimes tell the actual age of a particular piece of pottery. They may also be able to speculate about what the pottery was used for back in the time that it was created. They study the tends in the designs of many different cultures, and can differentiate between the artistic designs found on the pottery of two or more similar cultures.

If you want to create a special cultural theme within your home, you can start with pottery. You may have paintings, furniture, lamps, and other things that reflect the style of the particular culture that you are trying to portray. Pottery is excellent for not only reflecting the style of a particular culture, but it can also create the mood of the past. Antique pottery is the best kind to use if you want to create a certain "old" mood in your home.

The nice thing about pottery is that you may be able to keep it outside. You can give your back yard, or your front yard, a particular cultural feel by adding pottery that is specific to a nationality or ethnicity.

One of the ways to express your cultural identity or your love for a particular culture is to decorate. You might not want to have a room decorated permanently with this theme. You can choose to do this for certain holidays, and then store the pottery and other items away until next year. It is truly up to you. Whatever you do, enjoy it, and preserve your pottery and other antique cultural items well.
