Modern interior design can be thought of as many different things. It is stylish, fresh, fun, functional, minimalist and classical. Whenever you are designing a modern interior for your home there are a number of things that you need to think about.
Layout
When designing a room, the layout is particularly important as it will affect the functionality of the room. The built in appliances must be catered for at the design stage, as after it could be difficult to fit them in. It's important to provide enough space for built ins to be tucked out of the way without taking up too much space in the room, this will reduce tripping hazards and also improve the look of your room.
You should carefully decide where to place furniture so that it's easy for people to talk to other people sitting next to them whilst still being comfortable. You should realize that modern interior design isn't just about looks, but comfort and functionality too.
Style
The style of modern interior design is particularly important, this uses lots of clean lines and everything is placed in order. Modern designs are never cluttered, they are normally fairly minimalist and tidy. They may be seen as being vintage, however never cluttered. Modern pieces of furniture will hide away the clutter and focus on space and furniture rather than items. You can banish your ornaments when creating a modern design!
Different types of fabric are commonly used in the same room, there are many different types and prints of fabric which can be used together quite well. These all unify the look of the room and make it look like you planned the room carefully. You should spend time choosing two or three colors which work well together so that every component fits.
Adding new Elements
When you are designing a home there are a number of different types of modern design. You will need to first look at whether you want to create an open plan layout. This is a good choice if you plan on doing lots of entertaining, or like to talk to people in different rooms while you are cooking. An open plan will allow you much more flexibility as everything is open and can be moved around to suit.
You then need to think about how much light you require, how much natural light will be allowed in? Will you need to install any lighting for tasks? You might want to consider recessed lighting or track lighting as these are very popular with modern designs.
Something else that you need to think about is storage, decide which type of storage you would prefer to reduce the clutter in your living areas. You might want to fit an entertainment centre, book shelves, or a TV stand. You might also want to fit shelving which can store videos, gaming systems, or extra controllers. You might also want to consider installing a fitted dart board, or other items to enable you to play certain games or activities.
