It is every little girl's fantasy to have her own Princess room, and although shows like Extreme Home Makeover may make your initial attempts look somewhat feeble, there are ways to spice up your daughter's room and create a comfortable, heavenly retreat that she will enjoy for years to come.
A beautiful space always starts with some well thought out plans. Sit down with your daughter and find out her favorite shapes, colors, and styles. Is she a pink girl, or does she favor lilac? Color is the first step to creating a room she can enjoy. For a room with a Princess theme, choose light pastel colors. Bold colors will create a brasher space that may interfere with what you are trying to achieve.
Once you have your colors picked out, look to the floor. Is your daughter's carpet bland or drag beige? Does she have a cold, hardwood floor? Your best investment for her new room is a new area rug. You can now purchase kids area rugs specifically made for their rooms in a wide variety of shapes or styles. Finding a large area rug with a castle imprinted on it or a horse drawn carriage is as simple as searching through your local home decor store. Seeking a more luxurious feel for your little girls' room? Try a soft, chenille shag area rug in pink or brown. Shag area rugs will provide a soft cushion for your daughter's feet each morning, and make her feel like a princess.
Tulle or netting is an inventive way to spice up the windows of your princess themed room. Tulle can be purchased at your local fabric shop, and is relatively inexpensive. Coming in a variety of colors and patterns, you can find tulle with sparkles in a contrasting pink color that will catch your eye and provide privacy as well. If you are really trying to create a royal feel to your pink room, create a tulle canopy over your daughter's bed. Simply pin the tulle to the ceiling directly above the end of the bed. Try to keep your canopy the same width as the bed itself. Once pinned, drape the tulle along the length of the bed to the headboard and pin again. Let the excess fall behind the headboard, and you have an instant canopy.
Bedding for a princess room is readily available through the Disney store, but if you are seeking a slightly different feel or attempting to save money, you can create your own bedding. Local fabric stores carry cotton sheeting with tiaras, wands, or fairy tale themes that you can sew to create your own duvet cover or pillow case.
Accessorize your pink Princess room with a small chandelier. You can purchase an inexpensive chandelier and hang it from your existing light fixture. If you don't feel as though you have the skills to install a new light, you can buy pretty crystal lights that plug into your wall and still hang from a hook in the ceiling.
With a few well-placed photos, some Princess memorabilia such a scepter or a tiara, and soft throw pillows, you will have created your little Princess's room of her dreams. It's a weekend project that will make your daughter happy for years to come.
