Choosing the Correct Desk For Your Home

When you are looking to furnish your home office, you will have several desk options from which to choose. How can you decide which is right for you? You will need to ask yourself some questions first to narrow down your options and then take a careful assessment of your home office before finally making a decision.

When you work in your home office, what do you do? To find the best desk for your work habits, you need to take into account the materials you use while you work. Some people need a simple writing desk with one flat surface, but an increasing number of people require computer desks with a slide out drawer to house a keyboard. Computers often have peripherals such as scanners, printers and, fax machines. There are carts and cabinets available to house these and keep them out of sight when not in use. Some even need an "L" shaped corner desk with a computer desk on one leg and a writing desk on the other. Occasionally, home office users will need two computer desks, or those with tiered shelves to hold multiple monitors and CPUs. Personal style preferences will also come into play. Do you want an ornate executive desk, or a modern utilitarian computer cart?

After you have narrowed down your choices based upon how you will use your new desk, you need to make certain that it will fit into your home office. Take a tape measure and write down the length, width, and depth of the area you have allotted for a computer desk. You should also measure your door opening, hallway, and front door to be sure that your new desk can be delivered into your home without getting scratched.
