Most people believe colour is the most important aspect when choosing blinds, and in terms of aesthtics it certainly can be. But in terms of practicality and long lastivity the materials used are far more important. If you take a look at venetian and vertical blinds you will see there are two material options, aluminium or wood. Both aluminium and wood each have their advantages and disadvantages, here are just a few:
Wood looks better In my opinion there is no better finish to a room than a high quality wood. Whether it be a fire surround, flooring, furniture or blinds.
Wood is more expensive Even at the raw materials stage wood is more expensive than aluminium. It is also harder to transport and create blinds from, so it is obvious that all this is going to push the price of the final product up a bit.
Aluminium is waterproof The key advantage aluminium blinds have over wood is that they are resistant to water, or in other words water will not damage them as it does to wood. This makes aluminium blinds perfect for use in bathrooms where wooden blinds would have become rotted and eventually unusable.
Aluminium weighs less Aluminium is a light material, hence why it is used in high end bikes and other light weight products. This makes it ideal for manufacturing blinds which need to cover large expanses of glass.
Aluminium can be painted lots of colours Real wood obviously only comes in a limited range of colours, or tones. Aluminium on the other hand can be painted or treated to be any colour you desire, whether it be a bright pink or a neon green.
