Bedroom Furniture on a Budget

When you're looking for new bedroom furniture with a certain budget in mind, it can be a challenge to find reasonably priced pieces. Most furniture is priced high because its quality is high. If you happen to find a great deal, sometimes it's because the construction is cheap, so your furniture won't last very long in the end. How can you find good quality pieces without breaking your bank?

Before you head out into the bedroom furniture market, make a list of what pieces you need and how much you're willing to spend. Don't let any sales clerk try to sway you out of your budget!   Most mass furniture stores will have a discount section for their pieces that have been nicked or scratched. Usually, the quality will be the same as their intact selection - they will just have minor damage. If you find any pieces you like, like a bed frame or a dresser, and you're sure it can be repaired, go for it. You can even try to haggle the price down further. Most retailers want to get rid of the damaged goods as quickly as possible, so there's a chance they'll sell it to you for even less.

Comparison shop - go to a furniture store, pick out what you like, write down its information, and search it on the Internet. Chances are you'll find it for a lot cheaper. However, there are usually shipping issues when buying pieces off the Internet, so make sure they can actually ship it to your area, and tally up the charges...They may end up being the same price as the piece in store. RTA (ready to assemble) bedroom furniture is less expensive than pre-assembled, so if you don't mind doing the extra work to save some money, opt for RTA. You can make a project out of it, and invite your family to help you.

Shopping on a budget requires a lot of patience, especially if you go to discount stores, garage sales, or surf Craig'slist and eBay. Thrift stores, vintage shops, or flea markets will usually get new pieces in weekly, so keep checking back - sometimes you can spot really great finds! Keep your eyes peeled for neighborhood garage sales, since people normally get rid of unwanted furnishings.
You can also call up any neighbors or friends and ask if they're planning on getting rid of old  furniture. Who knows, they might just give you their old pieces for free! When you're looking on Craig'slist or eBay, try to find pieces from people that live closest to you so it will be easier to pick up. Of course, the quality is questionable with all of these options, so you have to make sure you test out the furniture before you buy, and check it for unfixable damage.

Once you've purchased your budget bedroom furniture, there are ways to update them for cheap. The easiest way is a quick coat of paint to make your furniture seem like new. You can also replace the hardware on a dresser or night table if the pieces you score are a little outdated. Stick wall decals on your pieces to add different patterns to the mix. Add a stain treatment or varnish to wood to make it look healthy and shiny. You'll end up saving a lot more if you do the treatments yourself!

Remember three things when shopping for new bedroom furniture on a budget: be patient, remember your budget, and buy only what you need!
