Basic Flooring Solutions for Your Home

Flooring is one of the most essential elements of home's design, both in terms of function and style. Here is a guide run-through of a few of the basic flooring options available for the various areas of your house.

Kitchen Flooring: Being very high traffic areas prone to dirt, food spills, drink spills and grease stains, kitchens require non-slip, sturdy flooring that is easy to clean. One good solution is vinyl flooring. It's resilient, washable and has a bit of bounce, which is great for preventing breakage in the event of dropped dishware and glasses.

Bathroom

The main requirement for bathroom flooring is that it be water proof. Toilet, bathtub and sink overflows happen. Non-slip flooring is also a must. Some good bathroom flooring options are vinyl or ceramic tile. If you like the hardwood aesthetic, there are some water proof hardwood options out there, but the best bet is to go with vinyl or ceramic.

Living Rooms

The Living Room is the focal point of most homes. Flooring options for living rooms depend in great part on what the main function of the living rooms is. Carpet can work well and provide an air of comfort and warmth. Great for family gatherings and conversation. Hardwood is also a good option, and it lets you change the look and feel of the room with different area rug set ups and designs.

Dining Room Floors

Dining rooms, like kitchens, get a lot of heavy traffic and food/drink spills. Carpet is often used in many homes' dining rooms, but it's not the best option, as it can be tough to clean stains from it. Go instead for hardwood, laminate or tile.
Bedrooms

Bedrooms let you have a little more fun with your flooring. Carpet works great and feels great on bare feet. Pick a color that matches the rest of the room's decor. Hardwood can also work if you add some plush decorative rugs. Pick neutral colors that can be versatile and adapt to the changes you make to the design of your bedroom. Find window shutters in San Diego to complete the look of your new bedroom.

Hallways and Stairways

Hallways and stairs usually get the most traffic, dirt and moisture. Inlaid wood patterned floor can provide both durability and style. Non-slip hardwood and runner carpets are great for these busy areas of the home.
