Basement refinishing can be a huge task. And it usually is something people usually avoid doing because of the time and effort that it needs. But this will be highly beneficial to the health of your basement and all items found in the room. It can be a daunting task if you do not know what you are doing.
You can either hire a professional contractor or try to refinish the basement yourself. The latter is actually quite possible because of the availability of materials that can be easily installed into your home. You can save a lot of money if you do the labor yourself. So why not bring out the handy person inside of you and work on your basement yourself?
Here are some tips that will help you in your basement refinishing project:
1. Subcontract each job individually, to different contractors
If you cannot avoid hiring a contractor but would still like to save money, then follow this tip. If you hire a single contractor to do all of the refinishing jobs, it will add up to be very expensive. You will be able to cut out the middle man if you hire them directly and individually.
2. Make sure you survey your entire basement before making any plans
Check every nook and cranny in your basement. Make sure that you catch every problem that is going on in your basement. The most important problem to look out for is any sort of water leak in your basement. There are three types to look for: water seeping through the basement windows and walls, water seeping in through your foundation, moisture gathering on your foundation floor.
3. Install the basement floor yourself
Measure your floor properly in order to purchase the right type of flooring of your basement. If you install it yourself, you can save a ton of money. This is a fairly easy job and you could even ask some friends or relatives to help you out. Generally, they could all help you out with the basement refinishing.
