2008 Trends in Kitchens and Baths

The latest kitchen and bath design trends draw inspiration from numerous sources including nature, technology, wall coverings, runway designs, decorative objects, cityscapes, upholstery and instruments. This great variety of influence is embodied in current home design trends and exemplified in many state-of-the-art kitchen and bath products.

"We grasp inspiration from abundant sources and translate these ideas into faucet designs - creating innovative, functional sculptures for the home," says Judd Lord, director of industrial design, Brizo.

Futuristic Trend

The futuristic movement is inspired by recent developments in technology which are translated into modern and unique materials, lighting and sounds. These technological influences coupled with a simplistic, clean and uncluttered feel are seen in a number of products such as Brizo's Pascal Culinary Faucet with Smart Technology which incorporates hands-free and touch activation features and the Belo kitchen faucet with MagneDock magnetic docking and DIAMOND Seal Technology.

Glam Movement

The influence of glamour reoccurs in virtually all style categories ranging from contemporary to traditional. The glam trend branches out into deco-drama, Art Nouveau and natural glamour. The deco-drama facet of the glam trend infuses the home with Art Deco, an eclectic form of elegance and stylish modernism primarily during its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s.

The Art Nouveau component is characterized by highly-stylized, flowing, curvilinear designs often incorporating floral and other plant inspired forms. Dynamic and flowing styling intertwined with organic lines results in simple, yet decorative pieces. Art Nouveau also emphasizes new materials, machined surfaces and abstraction. Natural glamour brings in earth inspired materials and color palettes to bring alluring organic yet decorative characteristics into the home.

Gender-Driven Trend

Historically, kitchen and bath products have been known to appeal to the dominant consumer, females. More recently men have become more knowledgeable about home design and want to personalize their own spaces. Product designers incorporate a more formal and traditional tailored feel, coupled with symmetric forms to appeal to a man who truly wants a space to call his own.

Urban Trend

The urban trend infuses crisp, cool geometric shapes into the home. Featuring sleek, fluid lines and minimalist styling these pieces bring a simple, modern look to the kitchen or bath. The urban trend's sleek, modern styling appeals to an increasingly design-savvy audience that seeks a fresh, uncluttered look. Drawing inspiration from contemporary European and Asian design cues, specifically the geometric forms found in modern furniture and lighting, the urban trend appeals to the sophisticated consumer.
